As a woman owned company, we wanted to celebrate American Business Women’s Day and highlight the leaders of Truly Good Foods, Angela Bauer and Carolyn Bennett. These women continue to break through barriers and shatter the glass ceiling that still exists for women in business today.
Ambitious from the start, Bauer and Bennett always had lofty aspirations to be successful women — Bennett wanted to be an author, and Bauer wanted to be a doctor. However, though these two are second generation owners of Truly Good Foods, they didn’t inherit a company and start at the top; instead, these women had to prove themselves to get to where they are today. With parents as great role models, Bauer and Bennett learned from an early age that working as a team and treating others with respect were the keys to running a successful, long-lasting business.
Both Bauer and Bennett don’t believe women should be intimidated in business, but instead should embrace the strength that being a woman gives them. They encourage women to join women-owned business organizations and get involved in the community. Truly Good Foods is certified in the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and the Women-Owned Small Business Program (WOSB). As far as advice about achieving life-long success for young entrepreneurs, they believe you need to find something you enjoy and pursue it; you need to work hard and make every situation a win-win.
As leaders for women in business, Bauer and Bennett continue to embody the definition of “women empowerment.” They encourage women to follow their dreams and set a positive example for young girls who want to be successful entrepreneurs. Women like these two are the reason American Business Women’s Day exists!
