Snack Mixes and Craft Beers

November 6, 2014

Requests for product information can sometimes be unique, in this case below, the request was unique, but, it also had an interesting twist to share.

About our snack mixes, a customer wanted to know which mixes fit the following points:
• Top sellers
• “healthy” aspects
• Pair well with craft beer

My results follow:

None of our mixes contain trans fats. All serving sizes are 30 grams, roughly 1oz. This is between ¼ and 1/3 of a cup depending on the density of the mix.

Sunburst™
• Historically a top 3 mix for us
• Sweet and salty mix, not typically a bar snack
• I suspect this would pair well with fruity craft beer, matching the sweet elements
• Nutritional content claims: low sodium, more protein
• 150 calories per serving
Healthy Trails Mix™
• Historically a top 3 mix for us
• Made with no salt, back 30+ years when that was a trend
• All natural
• A very traditional nuts, seeds & fruit mix
• I suspect you could pair this with about any bold flavored craft beer, the mix is the calming influence in the pair
• Nutritional content claims: cholesterol free, very low sodium, good source of dietary fiber
• 160 calories per serving
Sweet Heat™
• Created within the last 15 years, this has become a top 5 mix for us
• This mix would fall in the sweet and savory category
• I suspect it would pair well with a smooth wheat beer, as it has a number of bold, extreme flavors (butter toasted peanuts, Cajun seasoning)
• Nutritional content claims: cholesterol free, more protein
• 170 calories per serving
The Big Cheese®
• Bold cheese taste, crunchy bar type mix
• I suspect it would pair well with a light pilsner, as it has a heavy, bold cheese taste
• Nutritional content claims: cholesterol free
• 160 calories per serving
Firecracker Hot & Spicy®
• Historically one of our favorite bar mixes
• Taste driven by the nacho flavored peanuts and the crunchy charrito’s
• I would probably drink a light amber or a light wheat with this, it has good flavor, but could be balanced with a little extra beer flavor
• Nutritional content claims: good source of protein, cholesterol free
• 170 calories per serving
Capitol Mix II ™
• Unique tasting mix, heavy in different types of peanuts. The honey roasted peanuts add just enough, but not too much sweet, while the salted peanut rounds out the taste you would expect.
• All Natural
• I would recommend this with a heavier pilsner, I think the full flavor of the peanuts would go well with the tart touch of a heavy pilsner
• Nutritional content claims: cholesterol free, low sodium, good source of protein, good source of dietary fiber
• 150 calories per serving
Happy Hour Mix™
• This mix has been the #1 selling mix in our Orlando office for quite some time
• It has an onslaught of flavors, but they work quite well together … Cajun corn sticks, mustard pretzels, wasabi peas all add a little bit, while butter toffee peanuts even things out with a touch of sweet
• A very well rounded mix that would pair well with any craft beer that sits in the middle, not a light, nothing to heavy. My first consideration would be a medium amber.
• Nutritional content claims: cholesterol free
• 140 calories per serving
Mexicali Fire®
• Created within the last 15 years, this has become a top 3 bar mix for us
• A very traditional flavorful bar mix with plenty of crunch
• Though I am not a fan of the IPA, I suspect this would taste great with one by its side
• All Natural
• Nutritional content claims: cholesterol free, good source of dietary fiber
• 160 calories per serving
Wild About Wasabi®
• The same says it all, it has a bold wasabi flavor, this mix was created with our Artisan Creations line
• A perfect all around bar mix, as it adds a flavorful component, and no starchy fillers
• I suspect this would pair well with a dry stout and each would complement the others flavor
• Nutritional content claims: cholesterol free
• 150 calories per serving
Bartender’s Blend™
• Highlighted by its unique seasoning, this has been a bar mix favorite for 20+ years
• A very traditional bar mix when you look at it, but a flavorful surprise when you taste it
• I suspect this would pair well with many beer, but do to its full, even flavor, I would pair it with uniquely flavored porter, maybe a smoke or bourbon porter
• Nutritional content claims: cholesterol free, good source of dietary fiber
• 140 calories per serving
