What is a paleo diet?

Eating a “Paleo diet” means choosing foods that our ancestors ate during the Paleolithic era (2.6 million years to about 10,000 years ago), when they were hunter-gatherers and diets consisted of lean proteins, fish, fruits, vegetables, and nuts and seeds.

  • Lean proteins support strong muscles, healthy bones and optimal immune function.
  • Fruits are a good source of potassium, fiber, vitamin C and folate (folic acid)
  • Fish and seafood contain vitamins A, C, and E as well as iodine and selenium, which are key to any Paleo diet.
  • Vegetables provide nutrients such as fiber, folate and vitamins A, E, and C. Vegetables can also be a filling meal when lean proteins aren’t available.
  • Nut and seeds are a very rich source of vitamins and nutrients such as magnesium, copper, iron, thiamine, omega-3s, and vitamin C, E, and B6.

In order to live a Paleo lifestyle:

  • Eliminate added sugar, soft drinks, all packaged sweets, juices, grains, and dairy. As a rule of thimb, if it is in a box, don’t eat it.
  • Make sure at least 15% of your caloric intake for the day is protein.
  • Don’t over-exercise. Keep your training sessions short and intense and do them only a few times per week.

Paleo Health Benefits

  • Stabalizes blood sugar levels
  • Burns off stored fat
  • Reduces allergies
  • Provides balanced energy throughout the day
